To build Cork Sri Lankan Project is two fold: PROJECT B - MONTESSORI SITE LOCATION: TIMESCALE: |
On the 26th December, 2004 a tsunami killed 34,400 people in Sri Lanka. Following this in February 2006, Mr Brian Brennan, the proprietor of the Arklow Bay Hotel in Co Wicklow, arranged a fundraising event and travelled to Sri Lanka with €15,000 in humanitarian aid, BUT returned with a field! Since then, the Arklow, Kildare and Wexford communities have raised in excess of €2 million. These funds have been used to provide homes and education for 160 orphaned children. May 2007 saw John Hickey and Robert McCarthy proprietors of McCarthys Bar & Bistro, The Briar Rose Bar & Bistro, Penns Bar & Bistro travel to Sri Lanka with Brian. Being so inspired by the work achieved thus far, John and Robert (both long term colleagues of Brian) returned with a vision to build a Orphanage and Montessori school funded by the people of Cork. It is now Cork’s opportunity to play part in this exciting project. * Please note, 100% of the monies raised goes directly to the charity. No expenses are incurred.
