This charity was founded by Brian Brennan, a hotel proprietor from Arklow. It was brought to Cork by Robert McCarthy and John Hickey of McCarthys Bar & Bistro, Briar Rose Bar & Bistro and Penns Bar & Bistro.

The core patron of the charity is Cork hurling supremo, Tom Kenny, who would be hoping to get other sporting greats involved.

The first brick on this project was laid in November 2007. The building of the orphanage was completed in November 2008 and to date the Committee has raised close to €100,000. Now it is time to raise the remaining cash to ensure that the orphanage will be viable for the next 20 years.

There are two main events in 2009 which we hope will secure the much needed funds to pay for the building of the orphanage and its continued running costs for the next 20 years. These events will take place in late April/early May and also in October when we will be hosting a fundraising dinner.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS INCLUDE:

Throughout the next 4 week period will undertake an awareness campaign to highlight the Cork Sri Lankan Orphanage Project. A Launch night will take place in The Briar Rose on Friday 17th April 2009 to promote this event further. The week designated as the week where events will take place is the week beginning 18th May 2009 where we are encouraging schools, GAA clubs, workplaces and any other club and society to undertake fundraising activities in aid of the Cork Sri Lankan Orphanage Fund

The Gala Dinner will include many numerous well known faces along with fantastic auction items. Keep this date free in your diaries.
